Happy Halloween!
We had a great Halloween. First, Evie and I spent the day partying in Room 12 with Miss Tarra's class. While all the other classes at Plymouth had a little celebration at snack time, our class went all out and had a dance party, decorated picture frames, had a pumpkin hunt, carved a jack-o-lantern--Miss Tarra even did some break dancing to Thriller...
Tonight, we headed over to the Rossi's neighborhood just a few blocks away with the Carricks, the Hares, the Thomases, the O'Keefes, and every other person the kids know and had a great time. The streets are quiet and everyone over there is totally into Halloween so the kids all made out like bandits. We narrowly escaped Tropical Storm Noel, and actually had pretty perfect weather. Now I just need to figure out what to do with all the candy...

Rites of Passage
At 6 years and 6 months, Theo got his first loose tooth today! I think he is the last first grader in his class to do so, but I still can't believe that he is old enough for real teeth...
Other important milestones of the month are--he is *almost* riding without training wheels and he is reading all the beginning readers and our easier books really well--just as long as he pays attention!
Oh, and of course, poor Evie, second child, I didn't realize that she could write her name. I asked her at lunch yesterday if she could, and she just whipped it down on paper...God knows how long she's been doing that.
Update the next day: Theo's tooth came out this morning at school! It must have loose for more than just a day--oh yeah--paying lots of attention all around...

Our Own Naked Brother Sister Band
Who's says the Village kids have anything on us???
This is our house at 8:15pm this evening. I haven't quite gotten the bedtime ritual to go as smoothly as I had planned...I think they are finally asleep. Mommy is not far behind. All this taking care of two kids, two cats, and a house--AND trying to go to the gym--it's a lot for a girl to handle...

Help!
Theo and Evie had a big adventure tonight. After dinner at Nana and Papa's, they went out to jump on the mat in the cabana. We heard them yelling and screaming and just thought they were having fun. BUT when we went in to check on them about 20 minutes later, we saw that the bathroom door was shut and heard Theo yelling, "Help! Mama!" It turned out that they had gotten locked in the bathroom and had been crying and yelling for help for a looooonngg time. Well, Theo had been crying and yelling; Evie said that she was crying, but I didn't see any tears and her face didn't look red, so I suspect that she was just commiserating with her brother, but she didn't really seem to care...Whew, I guess I better check on them next time...

Thursday Afternoon Swimming Party
Today was the first day this week that it didn't rain, so Kate and the kids came over after school for a swim while we had a glass of vino. Kate and I had a big day as today was the day that the WHOLE FOODS finally opened. We bought cases of organic chocolate milk, lemonade and oreos. I left Kate and Behna at our house with the kids around 6 and went to meet Lee for dinner at Soyka until Bruce came home and Kate met us. Then we went to Evelyn's book reading at this hipster mama place on Biscayne Blvd where we hung out and drank more wine. Hunter Reno invited me and Kate to come hang out in her acre backyard where she keeps chickens!
Morning Devotion at Cushman
This morning, Theo's class did the morning "devotion" at flag raising. Each week, a different class makes a presentation to the school. Theo's class made little bees with messages about being a good citizen. His was "Be sure to let everyone play."

Mooncake Day
Both Theo and Evie celebrated Chinese Mooncake Day in their schools today. In Evie's class, her friend An-Xi's mother brought in mooncakes for everyone, and had each child make a red lantern. She gave everyone a glow stick and told them to put out their lanterns tonight when the moon was full. In Theo's class, his new Chinese teacher told them all about the story of mooncake day (something about a god and a hero and the moon...) and they each drew pictures of mooncake. Here is our attempt at putting out the lantern--we couldn't see the moon because it is so cloudy having rained for the past 2 days straight...
Theo and Licorice
Coconut had four kittens this summer--Storm, Lucky 7, Beauty and Licorice. We found homes for all of them and kept Licorice for ourselves.
